Overview

While Adventure Brass lends itself to bold lines in traditional settings, Trailer Brass was produced with more modern, over-sized contexts in mind.

We recorded three different groups: a ten-horn ensemble, a ten-trombone ensemble and the Horde; a three-cimbasso/three-tuba ensemble that has been aggressively processed for maximum beefiness.

To get the wide, wall-of-brass sound we were looking for, we sat the players evenly across the stage of a huge concert hall. We also spent a lot of time going for maximum volume, which is no easy task. It got so loud in there that the trombones ended up busting one of the microphones. Congrats were issued.

We've also included a varied collection of sound design patches that utilize the brass recordings in some great ways. Impacts, pads, BRAAAMs, synth basses, rhythmic drones and the like.

As always, we made it a point to limit the controls needed to get the job done in a reasonable amount of time. The Adventure and Majestic patches come to mind, where you can produce believable brass lines using just your keys and the modwheel. The library also contains five different GUI's designed to immediately inform you of what a particular patch can do in terms of control.

Happy composing!

Trailer Brass Quick Guide

To Silence button: Allows the assigned Dynamic CC (default is 1, the modwheel) to bring the softest dynamic all the way down to silence. With it off, the softest dynamic will play at its full volume with the modwheel all the way down.

Humanization button: For those who like to quantize, this is a useful feature to help stagger the attack and release times of your MIDI. There are three settings to cycle through: Tight (randomizes MIDI up to 15 milliseconds), Natural (up to 30 milliseconds) and Loose (up to 60 milliseconds). Due to the nature of this feature, expect a little latency during playback.

Microphone Positions: The "Mixed" position is actually a fully-balanced, "baked" mix of all the microphones used in the sessions. It was designed to address most musical applications and to offset the need to use both the Close and Far positions simultaneously.

If you wish to assign a mic to a specific Kontakt output, simply click the position name.

Breakout patch selection: We included keyswitch patches strictly as a means of easily auditioning/selecting articulations, not for realtime keyswitching in the middle of a phrase. We recommend selecting an articulation at the beginning of your track and loading additional instances of Trailer Brass for more articulations.

Adventure/Majestic differences: The Adventure patches are intended for quicker, more propellant passages. Majestic patches are intended for broader, heavier lines.
